Overview of green architects, Green Design Architecture, Sustainability, Global Warming and Architectural implications for design.

(C)Copyright 2009, Rand Soellner, AIA/NCARB

Green Architecture has to do with improving the environment while green architects design energy conservative, sustainable homes and buildings. This is an overview of green architects and Global Warming.

Global warming appears to be the consequence for humankind’s burning of excessive fossil fuels and rising ocean levels are one of the results, along with many others, none of them good. There are a list of things that green architects and their clients can do to reduce carbon emissions. Newer technologies that are cleaner are part of the bold, new hope, with systems like photovoltaics, for cleaner electrical power created right where it is needed.

There is a growing philosophy, bordering on McCarthyism, about being “green”. We need to be careful to do things that are positive for our environment. We do need to be sure about the reasons about why things are happening to our world before jumping to conclusions and adopting solutions that could be worse than the problem itself and bankrupting future generations to pay for answers that have not yet been proven. It is this architect’s opinion that if we all start by using more energy efficient systems and sustainable materials for our home design and construction, that can only be a good thing for us all. Please do see the other pages on this Green Architects website for more information; thank you.

Here is a link to the Green Gauge, an interactive webpage that lets you “build” your home on the Green Gauge, modeling a variety of systems to see what the “Greenest” choices might be for your home: http://www.homearchitects.com/green-gauge . This is for green architects and homeowners and green home builders.
